NVIDIA Adds Orchestration Layer to Quantum Computing Platform

The update aims to accelerate the timeline to useful quantum-GPU supercomputing.

NVIDIA has expanded its CUDA-Q open platform for quantum computing with an orchestration layer that aims to accelerate the development of applications for fault-tolerant quantum computers.

The CUDA-Q Logical orchestration layer allows researchers to “easily switch between options to identify optimal system configurations for performance with logical qubits,” NVIDIA says.

“The addition of CUDA-Q Logical provides power and flexibility to explore fully integrated, co-optimized systems regardless of qubit type and architecture — drastically shortening the timeline to useful quantum-GPU supercomputing,” said Timothy Costa, vice president and general manager of quantum at NVIDIA.

NVIDIA’s announcement also highlights the development of QUOPS, a cross-platform benchmark from Sandia National Labs that measures the progress of quantum computing systems toward utility-scale applications. Historically, NVIDIA notes, “progress in quantum computing has been measured primarily through advances in physical qubits” but QUOPS offers a hardware-agnostic, open approach to measuring quantum capabilities.
